Description
The Trueways Fire Lighting course (open to 16+) will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to light camp fires in the wilderness, no matter what the conditions.
Starting with matches and lighters we also work with ferrocerium rods, chemical ignition, solar and friction. We include all the principles that could help maintain life-saving fires the world over.
This course is open to all, no experience required.

You will be provided with a FREE quality LIGHT MY FIRE Firesteel to use during the day, which is yours to keep.

This course is designed to teach you essential fire-lighting skills in a safe and controlled manner, from understanding natural tinders to fire by friction bow drills and hand drills. How to safely situate your fire, in such a way to minimise damage to the environment is covered, as well as how to put it out and leave no trace. The course is enriched with the history of fire-lighting and essential tips and tricks on how to store tinder and source it even in the wettest of conditions. Each method will be demonstrated and you will get plenty of time to try them yourself - this is very much a hands-on course! How each fire-lighting method relates to different survival ordeals you face, is an important element in our course.

Our amazing woodland venue has an abundance of natural resources for lighting fires and you will significantly increase your ability to spot them. You might want to bring a thick kneeling mat and even a folding chair to make the day extra comfortable!

It's only by coming on such a course does one realize how ill prepared one is for surviving in the outdoors

I thoroughly enjoyed the course Andy and Amo were great and their experience showed. October 2020 was tough but a great time even when wet!!
I will take a lot away from this especially the psychological side. Mentally it is as tough as the physical but I can say I'll be back! I cannot recommend this course enough - if you want to be challenged and your willing to push yourself.
It teaches that giving up and giving in is not a option!

Our second year under Andy’s guidance and what a great adventure we had!
Absolutely fantastic time with my eight year old son and a small group of like minded dads and kids.
It was challenging for the kids and the assessments were hard but Andy helped them through and was keen engaging and above all patient!
Thanks to Trueways and particularly Andy for looking after us so well in these difficult times.

Kid's Woodland Survival Course ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My survival enthusiastic 9 year old throughly enjoyed 2 days on Cannock Chase. All of the children responded well to excellent tuition from Andy who struck up a quick rapore. Excellent venue which is of interest from a historical perspective and made the night time treasure hunt a brilliant experience. Adults will learn things too and will stand your children in good stead if they go on to do DofE. Thanks for a great weekend.
