5 Day Wild Canoe and Survival Expedition on Loch Shiel - Scotland

Fantastic opportunity for you to spend 5 days with Trueways Survival - our instructor will guide and teach canoeing and wild camping in one of the most beautiful places in the world along the breathtaking shores of Loch Shiel in Scotland learning basic survival skills along the way.

Throughout the expedition you will safely and skilfully learn how to manage yourself on a multi-day canoe trip.You will also learn the skills of survival on your way, utilising the skills needed for surviving in a spectacular and demanding environment, you will have the opportunity to practice these survival skills throughout your journey.

Loch Shiel changes considerably along its length, big deep and enclosed by mountains in the north east and shallow surrounded by bog and rough pasture in the south west from which the River Shiel drains to the sea in Loch Moidart. A truly special place.
Loch Shiel is the fictional Black Lake near Hogwarts in the film versions of the Harry Potter series. 

Most of the shore is a Special Area of Conservation so whilst Canoeing you will have the opportunity to spot the unique wildlife along the way. The trip provides good opportunities to see Golden Eagles, White-­Tailed Eagles, Red­ Throated and Black Throated Divers, Hen Harriers, Pink Footed Geese, Red Deer, Otter's and numerous other species. 

You will leave Loch Shiel with a real sense of achievement having completed such an expedition, with memories and skills that will last forever.

You will not be asked or expected to do anything you do not want to do.

The following items will be provided for you at no additional cost
Dry Barrels
Buoyancy Aids

A full kit list will be emailed to you once your booking is confirmed, expect to need
Waterproofs, Hat, Gloves, Boots, Sleeping Bag, Tent.

All food will be provided, however please feel free to bring along any snacks.

Fitness Level 3
Must be18 or over and in good health.
There could be strenuous activities over a multi day periods.
Paddling experience is not essential.
You may well need to carry all of your own equipment
Must be reasonably fit and comfortable in bad weather conditions.

You will be expected to find your own way to Inverness Train Station or Airport, there will be arranged transport for the rest of the journey to and from the destination.
You will be returned to either the Train Station or the Airport at approx 1pm on the last day.

About Loch Shiel
Loch Shiel is a 17 mile long freshwater loch, 120m deep situated 12 miles west of Fort William in Lochaber, Scotland. Its nature changes considerably along it's length, being deep and enclosed by mountains in North East and shallow surrounded by bog and rough pasture in the South West, from which end the 6 mile River Shield drains to the sea in Loch Moidart near Castle Tioram.
