Fully updated for 2011, influenced by Lofty Wiseman, knife designer Tom Law has worked tirelessly to produce a real masterpiece, the Trueways Survival Tool (Mod 2011). With no compromise on quality or design, using ultra-durable modern materials and methods, and incorporating lessons learned in the field, this new tool is, in Lofty’s words, “just what I always wanted.”
The Trueways Survival Tool incorporates numerous original and unique features.
Hand Made in England – Every Trueways Survival Tool is individually hand-made and finished in England. We even make our own micarta for the handles!
Grind – Unique to the Trueways Survival Tool (Mod 2011) is a hand produced, Vari-Ground Blade. Near the handle is a full convex grind, perfect for feathersticks, bark stripping, whittling and food preparation. The sweet spot for chopping work is shaped as a typical cross cut axe grind (convex to hollow, designed to throw chips and not become wedged into the wood whilst chopping) and towards the tip the grind becomes semi-convex for skinning and scraping work. Complex to produce, and only possible by hand, but incredibly simple to maintain in the field, this unique grind offers a combination of the best knife for the job at hand coupled with rugged strength and durability. A balanced spear point nose allows the tool to be used easily as a digging implement if necessary.
Steel - As commented upon by Lofty the best survival tools of this size are made from spring steel so they are tough and more durable for heavy work. In response the Trueways Tool incorporates a relatively high carbon spring steel with chromium, enabling a balance of edge holding, durability and resistance to the elements.
Handle and Grip - The tool`s micarta handle enables the user to adopt a secure long grip resulting in a nose heavy tool, great for chopping and heavy work. However, a cut out just forward of the micarta handle allows the user to choke down with a forward grip, completely changing the balance of the knife, making the short grip perfect for lighter or more controlled work such as carving, whittling, feather sticks, skinning, food preparation or other close up work. (Other tools always became heavy for this type of work). The full tang micarta handle is contoured in both long and short grip for prolonged and secure use. Handle grips are secured in four separate areas, using three large brass machined pins and a sturdy brass lanyard tube, complete with paracord lanyard supplied.
Safety Sheath – A tough cordura safety sheath is supplied with each Tool. Designed by Lofty during his time in South East Asia, this free swinging, riveted and double-stitched sheath includes a safe-draw design and hardened fillet to prevent the knife cutting through the sheath. The perfect complement to the Trueways Survival Tool.
