Description

Does your youngster know what to do when injured, lost, stranded or involved in an extreme weather event? With a more chaotic climate bringing all sorts of experiences from flooding to extreme heat their lives will be eventful and full of challenge. Learn from very experienced, personable and fun instructors what your survival priorities are. Great preparation for Duke of Edinburgh participants.

The Trueways 2 Day Young Survivalist course, in keeping with our philosophy of real skills for real situations, delivers sensible and appropriate survival training for children aged 7 to 15. This is a basic course intended to give some real skills to those attending. The teaching style is geared towards the young participants. The price of this course includes one child and one adult. One adult can bring multiple children on the course - you just pay for each child place.

This course loosely follows the adult 2 day basic survival course but with shorter teaching periods and more social interaction by the children. Adults should expect to do some of the work and to supervise their children fully but remember that the course content and focus is on the children. Don't expect lots of adult standard theory or in-depth analysis, the focus is on teaching the children and keeping them safe.

The Trueways Young Survivalist course was featured in 'The 50 Best Active Days Out' guide from 'The Independent' newspaper. Trueways Survival School was the only survival & bushcraft school to make the grade, we were also featured in 'The Times' newspaper as one of "the best courses for aspiring Ray Mears", (their words not ours).

This course is very popular and can get booked up quickly, due to the nature of the course we are limited to 4 courses a year during the warmer months.

Your youngster will leave with more confidence with: matches, lighters, ferro rod and striker, paracord skills, outdoor cooking and sleeping, finding and treating water, foraging for bugs and plants, navigating and making effective signals for rescue.

It's only by coming on such a course does one realize how ill prepared one is for surviving in the outdoors

The instructor was great - sharing practical skills & knowledge in an inclusive manner; giving us all the chance to practice our newly acquired skills ; I excelled at knots & fire starting

I thoroughly enjoyed the course Andy and Amo were great and their experience showed. October 2020 was tough but a great time even when wet!!
I will take a lot away from this especially the psychological side. Mentally it is as tough as the physical but I can say I'll be back! I cannot recommend this course enough - if you want to be challenged and your willing to push yourself.
It teaches that giving up and giving in is not a option!

Our second year under Andy’s guidance and what a great adventure we had!
Absolutely fantastic time with my eight year old son and a small group of like minded dads and kids.
It was challenging for the kids and the assessments were hard but Andy helped them through and was keen engaging and above all patient!
Thanks to Trueways and particularly Andy for looking after us so well in these difficult times.

Kid's Woodland Survival Course ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My survival enthusiastic 9 year old throughly enjoyed 2 days on Cannock Chase. All of the children responded well to excellent tuition from Andy who struck up a quick rapore. Excellent venue which is of interest from a historical perspective and made the night time treasure hunt a brilliant experience. Adults will learn things too and will stand your children in good stead if they go on to do DofE. Thanks for a great weekend.
